Journeys to the High Street

Shop window exhibition of photos and stories from Dudley's Black community

Dionne and Miriam had been gathering photos and stories from Dudley’s Black community on the High Street as part of their Afro Histories Dudley project. Dionne met Sita in one of the Stories of Place session, who was interested in the types of food available on the High Street, which led them to thinking about journeys to the High Street from cultures around the world.

For the Stories of Place celebration day in October 2022, Dionne and Miriam brought the lab window to life with their photos, stories and a banana plant! People were invited to discover food that had journeyed to the High Street: plantain, sugar cane, green bananas, okra, and chillies.

Exhibition of historical photos of Black residents in Dudley, and photos of food from across the world.
