Films Inspiring Action

What if… local people curated a programme of films which inspire climate action?

Thinking or talking about climate change can feel overwhelming and leave us unsure about what to do or whether we can make a difference. Alongside the vitally important truth-telling by all kinds of people, there are stories of care-taking and change-making. Lots of filmmakers have shared stories of hope, stories of everyday people taking action. Alongside and within reporting and art which calls attention to the harms that systems created by humans inflict, there are films sharing stories of the capabilities of the natural world to repair and recover, and of people standing up to the systems perpetuating violence and harm.

A small group of local people have co-curated a winter season of films which we will screen between November and March. Each screening will be followed by a short discussion. The Winter Film Programme is supported by Dudley People’s School for Climate Justice. Some of the film screenings will be part of a programme of Urban Room Unbound activities which CoLab Dudley is curating.

What to expect

We’re not a cinema! We’ll be watching the film on a large digital screen. We’ll get settled in with popcorn and wintery drinks (small donations welcome). Then we’ll watch a film. After a short break we’ll have a discussion about the film, for around half an hour.

The Winter Film Programme is as follows:

  • Tuesday 19 November | 6pm for a 6.30pm start. Film: 2040

  • Sunday 19 January | 2pm-4pm. Film: The Nettle Dress

  • Wednesday 19 February | 1pm-3pm. Film: Fishermen of the Floods

  • Wednesday 12 March | 6pm-8pm. Film: The Seeds of Vandana Shiva

Details of each film and screening with free ticket booking links will be added below.
